It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 49-7, which was the final score in Umatilla's's tilt against Leesburg on Friday. Umatilla was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-0.
Logan Bowling threw for 100 yards on six of 14 attempts. Jaden Bryant was his top target, picking up 72 receiving yards and no touchdowns.
Leading Leesburg to victory were Salomon Georges and Lavoctris Patterson. Georges threw for 190 yards and three touchdowns, while Patterson rushed for 119 yards on only eight carries.
Umatilla's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-2 Mount Dora and 5-3 Lake Weir (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 69.1% over those games). As for Leesburg, the victory was the fifth in a row for they, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.
Umatilla will head out on the road to face off against The Villages Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Leesburg will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Specially Fit Academy at 7:00 p.m. on October 30th.
