The McDowell Titans will take on the T.C. Roberson Rams at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. McDowell knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully T.C. Roberson likes a good challenge.
McDowell is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Monday as they easily beat Asheville 98-68. Given the Titans' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while the Cougars are ranked 506th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
McDowell's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Derrick Forney Jr, who posted 24 points, and Kyson Rinnert, who put up 19 points. Another player making a difference was Rylan Parkins, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, T.C. Roberson was able to grind out a solid win over Enka on Tuesday, taking the game 87-74. The victory continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Jets: they've now won six in a row.
T.C. Roberson's win came from a few key players McDowell will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Dean Lowe, who shot 4-for-4 from deep and dropped a double-double with 24 points and 14 rebounds. He is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 46% in the last eight games he's played. LaRon Mills was another key player, going 9-for-17 en route to 21 points in addition to five assists and three steals.
T.C. Roberson was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.
T.C. Roberson now has a winning record of 13-12. As for McDowell, their win bumped their record up to 21-3.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest-scoring teams around. McDowell hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 73.5 points per game. However, it's not like T.C. Roberson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 60.1 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can put up more.
McDowell skirted past T.C. Roberson 69-66 in their previous meeting back in January. Does McDowell have another victory up their sleeve, or will T.C. Roberson turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
