The Riverdale Rams will face off against the Sherrard Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Riverdale's favor as the squad sits on 11 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Sherrard has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
Ten must be Riverdale's lucky number: they beat Marengo with that score not once but twice on Saturday. The Rams put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 10-1 victory. Considering the Rams have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Brooklyn Peterson was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Claire Beeler, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Riverdale kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in six consecutive games.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Sherrard and Princeton, and Princeton kept the tradition alive. Sherrard fell 11-8 to Princeton on Saturday.
Makenzy Moran and Alexis Essary stepped up to the plate in a big way. Moran went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Essary went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Moran is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Stanley, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Riverdale's win bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Sherrard, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Riverdale hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .408. However, it's not like Sherrard struggles in that department as they've averaged .388. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Riverdale got the 'W' when the teams last played back in May of 2025 against Sherrard by a conclusive 15-0 score. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
