The Mott Marauders will square off against the New Haven Rockets at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Friday, Mott got the win against Clintondale by a conclusive 17-1. The win continues a trend for the Marauders in their matchups with the Dragons: they've now won three in a row.
Blake Wright made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Wright was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucas Wypiszewski, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Anthony Carter, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one double.
Mott always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, New Haven got themselves on the board against Sterling Heights on Friday, but Sterling Heights never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over the Stallions. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Rockets considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Like Mott, New Haven also got a great game from a two-way player: Connor Abuan. On the mound, Abuan pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Kaden Gilbert tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. At the plate, Abuan went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Gilbert went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Gilbert is becoming a predictor of New Haven's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, New Haven got a massive performance out of Will Bosco, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Those four runs gave Bosco a new career-high. Lamar Pearson was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
New Haven is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Mott, their win bumped their record up to 6-7.
Mott suffered a grim 10-3 defeat to New Haven in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Marauders have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
