For the first time this season, Cherokee will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will head out on the road to square off against the Lenape Indians at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
While Chiefs fans will have to keep waiting for their team to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Monday's season opener. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Bishop Eustace Prep a 15-0 shutout on Monday.
Allison Cunane made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Cunane was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Luci Dandrea, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Kasey McNee, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.
Lenape not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 6, 2024. They blew past Shawnee 14-0. The Indians' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Like Cherokee, Lenape also got a great game from a two-way player: Taliyha Milton. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched. Milton has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Becca Taylor and Ollie KLoy did most of the damage at the plate: Taylor went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while KLoy scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That home run marked the first that Taylor launched this season. Mia Marino was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Lenape always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Cherokee took their victory against Lenape when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 8-2 score. Will the Chiefs repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
