The Morrice Orioles will head out on the road to square off against the Dansville Aggies at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Morrice put up the most runs they have all season on Monday. They put the hurt on Bendle with a sharp 15-3 win. The Orioles not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 29, 2024 (when they won 17-2).
Caitlin Brewer was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Brewer was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those stolen bases were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Morrice got a massive performance out of Belle Hoy, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that Hoy has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Krissy Hovis, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double.
Morrice always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .651. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Dansville came out on top against Waverly on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 13-run first inning. The Aggies blew past the Warriors 19-1. The result was nothing new for the Aggies, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.
Laci Neal made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Kaelee Foreman was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maddi Carter, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Dansville is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. Morrice's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Morrice has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .559. However, it's not like Dansville struggles in that department as they've averaged .466. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Morrice suffered a grim 15-1 defeat to Dansville in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Orioles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
