Mount Vernon hasn't had much luck against Lake Braddock recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Majors will square off against the Bruins at 7:00 p.m. Lake Braddock took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Mount Vernon, who comes in off a win.
Mount Vernon is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Annandale: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Majors blew the Atoms out of the water with a 55-13 final score. Considering the Majors have won six games by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Mount Vernon, racking up 13 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Demontrez Bannister, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Lake Braddock and West Springfield, and West Springfield kept the tradition alive. The Bruins fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 34-31 on Friday. The Bruins were up 28-13 in the third quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.
Mount Vernon will have to contain Tyrone Jackson as he made an impact in Lake Braddock's last game. He rushed for 108 yards and one score, and also threw for 221 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Samuel Rhye helped out on the ground, rushing for 85 yards and a rushing touchdown.
Mount Vernon pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 14.3 points on average over those games. As for Lake Braddock, the loss was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 8-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Mount Vernon has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 186.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Lake Braddock struggles in that department as they've been averaging 165 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Mount Vernon took a serious blow against Lake Braddock in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, falling 56-6. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Majors were down 42-0.
