It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Gatewood Gators had no problem doing just that on Friday. They skirted past the Buccaneers 15-12. The win was nothing new for Gatewood as they're now sitting on four straight.
Gatewood got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Hunter Johnson out in front who rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries.
Despite the loss, Briarwood Academy still got an impressive performance from Charlie Mosley, who rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Mosley has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last five times he's played.
Even if they lost, Briarwood Academy's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. In that department, Mason Thigpen was the leader with two sacks.
Gatewood is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. As for Briarwood Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.
Gatewood will head out on the road to face off against Edmund Burke Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Edmund Burke Academy will be looking to keep their eight-game home win streak alive. Briarwood Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
