Volleyball Recap: Mitchell Has No Trouble Against Madison

Mitchell barely beat Madison the previous time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mountaineers put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 3-0 win on Tuesday. The Mountaineers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Patriots, too.

The victory didn't come easy: Madison scored at least 21 points in every set. The final set scores came out to 25-22, 25-21, 25-23.

Madison's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Meredith Gault, who had 27 assists and 10 digs. The team also got some help from Eva Greer, who had 20 digs and 10 kills.

Mitchell's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 7-5. As for Madison, they have now lost 10 of their last 13 games on the road. That leaves them at a 5-6 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mitchell will host Avery County at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Madison, they will be playing at home against Asheville School (Independent) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
