The Lake Region Thunder and the Gateway Panthers squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but sadly the Lake Region Thunder had to settle for second. They received a tough blow as they fell 54-35 to the Panthers. While losing is never fun, Lake Region can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 261st, while Gateway is ranked 105th).
Leading Gateway to victory were Alyssa Marino and Evana Rivera. Marino scored 19 points along with seven assists and six rebounds, while Rivera dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rivera has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Malayna Stevenson, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Lake Region now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Gateway, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-6.
Lake Region does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Gateway, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 37-25 win vs. Lake Wales on the 9th.
