The Franklin Flyers will head out on the road to take on the Kenesaw Blue Devils on Friday. Franklin comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last nine games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Franklin suffered their biggest loss since December 1, 2023 on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Silver Lake at home and fell 41-13. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Franklin in their matchups with Silver Lake: they've now lost three in a row.
Franklin got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of
Allison Boettcher and
Macy Lennemann, who each put up three points.
Jordyn Falkenstine held things down on the boards with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Kenesaw scored the most points they've had all season to find success two weeks ago. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 57-11 blowout they got at home against Harvard. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 37-5.
Kenesaw's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Avery Kelley, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and five steals. Bentley Olson was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Franklin's loss was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-10. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.7 points per game. As for Kenesaw, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Franklin have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 26.7 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Kenesaw, though, as they've been averaging only 26.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Franklin lost to Kenesaw on the road by a decisive 31-16 margin when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can Franklin avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
