Morrill and Bayard are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2019, but not for long. The Lions will be playing at home against the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Morrill will be looking to extend their current 15-game winning streak.
Morrill had to skate by with only a one-set margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the three-set drubbing they dealt Gordon-Rushville on Tuesday. The Lions were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Mustangs.
While Morrill won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. The final score came out to 25-16, 25-23, 25-17.
Morrill found their leader in freshman Claire Edwards, who had 15 digs and one assist.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Bayard, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top against Minatare by a score of 3-1 on Thursday.
While Bayard might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Minatare scored at least 18 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-23, 23-25, 25-20.
Bayard found their leader in sophomore Jayde Mcallister, who had 22 digs. Those 22 digs set a new season-high mark for Mcallister.
Bayard was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That's the most aces they've posted in their last seven matchups.
Morrill's win bumped their record up to 23-3. As for Bayard, their victory bumped their record up to 10-15.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Monday's contest: Morrill has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.2 aces per game. However, it's not like Bayard struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.1 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Morrill's way against Bayard when the teams last played back in September, as Morrill made off with a 3-0 win. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
