Basketball Recap: Josue Tellez Key Part of a Team Effort in Spartans Win

After losing to Mayer the last time they met, Ash Fork decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Ash Fork Spartans secured a 39-35 W over the Mayer Wildcats on Wednesday.

Ash Fork got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Josue Tellez out in front who posted 12 points in addition to eight boards and six blocks. Those six blocks gave Tellez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeffrey Trovillion, who went 7 of 15 on his way to 14 points along with six boards and four blocks.

Ash Fork's victory bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Mayer, their loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ash Fork and Williams will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday without much rest having both just played. Ash Fork has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Mayer, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Maryvale Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mayer is facing Maryvale Prep at the right time seeing as Maryvale Prep is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
