Softball Recap: Kinston Comes Up Short

Kinston dropped down to 21-11 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of Andalusia by a score of 3-2. Kinston was not able to repeat the success they had when they faced Andalusia earlier this season, when they won 5-2.

As for Andalusia, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-9-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games.

For Andalusia's part, Kailey Jackson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Taya Newton, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Kinston will face off against Houston Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 2.2, the Raiders 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Andalusia, they will take on Opp at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
