Cypress Creek is 0-4 against Zephyrhills since October of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Cypress Creek Coyotes will head out on the road to face off against the Zephyrhills Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Cypress Creek knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully Zephyrhills likes a good challenge.
Last Friday, Cypress Creek strolled past River Ridge with points to spare, taking the game 31-17. The win was just what Cypress Creek needed coming off of a 63-35 defeat in their prior contest.
Cypress Creek's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Malachi Askin, who rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns. Askin has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last four times he's played. Shaan Patel did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 89 receiving yards and a touchdown.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Cypress Creek's defense and their four sacks. David Kirk was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three sacks himself.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 63 points the game before, Zephyrhills were a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They were outmatched by Dunnellon on the road and fell 40-6. Zephyrhills was already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.
Cypress Creek's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Hollins and 1-9 Wesley Chapel (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 38% over those games). As for Zephyrhills, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.
Cypress Creek was dealt a bruising 63-35 loss at the hands of Zephyrhills in their previous matchup two weeks ago. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Zephyrhills' Tristan Lennon, who rushed for 226 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries.
