For the second straight game, Bountiful will face off against Viewmont. The RedHawks will head out on the road to challenge the Vikings at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Bountiful is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Bountiful fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Viewmont on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 5-4. Surprisingly, this marked the RedHawks' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
For Viewmont's part, Beckham Smith made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Smith also tossed a walk, which is notable because Viewmont is 10-4 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-5 otherwise. Smith was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.
In other pitching news, Cal Miller looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, James Peterson was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Bode Petersen, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Viewmont has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Bountiful, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Bountiful has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Viewmont struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
