North Bay recap Oct. 23, 2012
John Porchivina of Casa Grande ran for the longest rushing play in North Bay this season against Ukiah last week. Porchivina's team bested the Wildcats as he sprinted for 73 yards on the play and finished with 133 in all.
Rancho Cotate extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Maria Carrillo, 35-21. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Cougars.
Michael Courchaine put up the best numbers through the air as Rancho Cotate defeated the Pumas. He finished with 10 completions for 207 yards and three touchdowns. Courchaine's favorite target this week was Courchaine, who caught three passes for 58 yards.
Cole Boggs was the best wideout in the league this week as Casa Grande topped Ukiah. Boggs tallied three receptions for 77 yards. Corey Llorence helped Casa Grande's passing attack out by catching three balls for 30 yards.
Trent Herzog's team's JaJuan Lawson and Jarred Roberts have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading North Bay in both passing and receiving yards. Lawson has thrown for 1496 yards this season, while Roberts, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 22 catches for 484 yards. Ed Conroy's team's Jalon Luque leads the league in rushing yards with 1143.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Rancho Cotate takes on second place Cardinal Newman. The Cougars bested Maria Carrillo last week, while Cardinal Newman topped Windsor.
Santa Rosa's Jahray Hayes is a mere 35 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 130 carries Hayes has accumulated 965 yard this year.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Rancho Cotate takes on the Cardinals. The Cougars have allowed 63 points this season, while Cardinal Newman has given up 71. Rancho Cotate allowed 21 points last week as it defeated Jay Higgins' team.
The Panthers moved up to 535 from 595 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Santa Rosa was able to make move up by besting Montgomery 28-7.
