Sunlake has gone 9-1 against Clearwater recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Seahawks will head out on the road to challenge the Tornadoes at 7:00 p.m. Sunlake's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Clearwater's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Thursday, Sunlake beat Hernando 4-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Seahawks.
Madison Siders spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Sunlake saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Analese Lacquey, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Clearwater, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Berkeley Prep 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tornadoes have posted since March 8th.
The result came thanks to Morgan Maske's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks.
Sunlake pushed their record up to 16-7 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Clearwater, their win bumped their record up to 12-9.
Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sunlake hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. However, it's not like Clearwater struggles in that department as they've averaged .337. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sunlake was able to grind out a solid victory over Clearwater when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Seahawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
