Voyager Academy is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Vance Charter on Tuesday. They lost 11-2 to the Knights.
Voyager Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lainey Higdon, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Gabi Mebane also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Durham Academy came out on top against Cary Academy on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run first inning. The Cavaliers were the clear victors by a 16-3 margin over the Chargers. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cavaliers.
Stella Teis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Durham Academy got a massive performance out of Whitney Wiles, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. What's more, Wiles posted two hits, the most she's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Lillian Dardani, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Durham Academy hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.
The win got Durham Academy back to even at 7-7-1. As for Voyager Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
Voyager Academy took their victory against Durham Academy in their previous matchup on Friday by a conclusive 16-0 score. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
