The Christopher Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Pioneer Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Christopher's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over Del Mar. That's two games straight that the Cougars have won by exactly 12 runs.
Brianna Diaz Cruz was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Diaz Cruz was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Christopher got a massive performance out of Melissa Lugo, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and one double. Those two triples gave Lugo a new career-high. Olivia Wilson was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Pioneer, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They put the hurt on Oak Grove with a sharp 10-1 win on Wednesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Like Christopher, Pioneer also got a great game from a two-way player: Gina Scripoch. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Scripoch was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Cara Goodrich was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 3-for-4. Cindy Fries also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Pioneer kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Pioneer's record now sits at 3-8. As for Christopher, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-6.
Christopher came out on top in a nail-biter against Pioneer in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
