There's no place like home for the Canyon Cougars, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 63-36 victory over Smithson Valley at home. The victory was all the more spectacular given Canyon's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 575th, while Smithson Valley is ranked 287th).
Smithson Valley lost on Friday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Dj Onezine, who scored five points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Redding, who scored seven points.
Canyon's win bumped their record up to 6-17. As for Smithson Valley, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.
Canyon will head out on the road to face off against Seguin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Seguin is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 59.9 points per game. As for Smithson Valley, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Boerne-Champion at 6:30 p.m. Boerne-Champion is coming into the game hot, having won their last 13 games.
