The Plattsmouth Blue Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Omaha South Packers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Plattsmouth is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Plattsmouth turned things around against Platte Valley on Thursday. They skirted past Platte Valley 4-2.
Meanwhile, Omaha South sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over Falls City on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Packers in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won seven in a row.
Zane Carroll made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Omaha South's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 6-2 (and 8-9 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Kooper Gray was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.
Omaha South's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-11. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Plattsmouth, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Plattsmouth has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Omaha South struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Plattsmouth came out on top in a nail-biter against Omaha South in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, sneaking past 7-6. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Packers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
