Seneca is 8-2 against West-Oak since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Seneca Bobcats will head out on the road to challenge the West-Oak Warriors at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Tuesday, Seneca didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Walhalla, but they still walked away with a 76-72 victory. Given Seneca's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 56th, while Walhalla is ranked 223rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Seneca to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cam O'kelley, who scored 24 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Stu Finley, who scored 15 points.
Meanwhile, West-Oak's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their ninth straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 56-55 to Crescent. West-Oak found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 18 to 9 on offense.
Despite the loss, West-Oak had strong showings from Anthony Kaliski, who scored 18 points along with three steals, and Drew Crompton, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Kaliski scored 15 or more points. Lucas Towe was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
Seneca pushed their record up to 15-4 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for West-Oak, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Seneca hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 66.2 points per game. It's a different story for West-Oak, though, as they've been averaging only 46.9 points per game. The only thing between Seneca and another offensive beatdown is West-Oak. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Seneca came up short against West-Oak in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 54-42. Can Seneca avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
