AAA District 8 recap November 5, 2013
Shelbyville Central extended the longest winning streak in AAA District 8 this week by beating Lawrence County, 41-6. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Golden Eagles.
Franklin County scaled the state rankings by moving to 152 from 185 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Rebels climbed the ranks as a result of topping Columbia Central 51-0.
Shelbyville Central's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Mason Cunningham threw for 140 and 1 touchdown and Tyler Eddings had 48 yards receiving. On the ground Michael Eddings chipped in 75 yards. Detrell Carpenter helped Shelbyville Central's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 22 yards.
Cunningham put up the best numbers in passing as Jason Hardy's team topped the Wildcats. Cunningham's favorite target this week was Eddings, who caught 7 passes for 48 yards.
The Golden Eagles' Cunningham and Eddings have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Cunningham has thrown for 1,779 yards this season, while Eddings has 25 catches for 489 yards. August Hill from Lincoln County leads the league in rushing with 1,134 yards.
Ryan Golden of the the Falcons is only 62 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Golden has rushed for 938 yards on 160 carries so far this year.
A big matchup in AAA District 8 this week will be when Shelbyville Central takes on Tullahoma. At the moment, the Golden Eagles are in first, while the Wildcats are in third.
Franklin County made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,681 from 6,797. The improvement was largely due to a 51-0 victory over the Lions last week.
