Ironton extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 8-1. They blew past the Gallia Academy Blue Devils, posting a 56-7 win. The Fighting Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by 22 points or more this season.
Ironton was led to victory by Kayden Edwards and Zayne Williams. Edwards threw for 96 yards and three TDs, while Williams rushed for 125 yards and one score on only five carries. Those three passing touchdowns gave Edwards a new career-high. Maddix Markel also helped with two touchdowns in total.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 20 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Easton Caudill, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a punt return touchdown from Markel.
As for Gallia Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. Having soared to a lofty 41 points in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.
When it comes to explaining why Gallia Academy lost, don't look at Max Canaday. Despite the final result, he rushed for 141 yards on only five carries. Canaday's longest rush was for an incredible 76 yards.
Ironton wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 1-0 defeat against Portsmouth on the 24th. As for Gallia Academy, they have also already played their next contest, a 34-7 victory against South Point on the 24th.
