Erskine Academy hasn't had much luck against Gardiner recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Eagles will host the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. Erskine Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Erskine Academy will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Nokomis, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. The Eagles blew past the Warriors 11-5 on Wednesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Eagles considering their two-run performance the game before.
Kelsie Dunn was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Dunn was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lillian Clark, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Stella Martinelli was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run.
Erskine Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Gardiner ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over Oak Hill. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Erskine Academy's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Gardiner, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.
