Carson City-Crystal is 0-3 against St. Louis since April of 2016 but things could change on Tuesday. The Eagles will host the Sharks at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Thursday, Carson City-Crystal was able to grind out a solid victory over All Saints Central, taking the game 5-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.
Haven Reeder made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Haedee Clark, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Calli Heleski, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Louis). Everything went their way against Gladwin on Tuesday as they made off with a 21-13 win. Considering the Sharks have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Carson City-Crystal, St. Louis also got a great game from a two-way player: Paige Luneack. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. Luneack was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Halle Hoyt and Ellie Katt did most of the damage at the plate: Hoyt got on base in four of her six plate appearances with five runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Katt went 5-for-6 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Kenadie Henry was another key player, getting on base in three of her six plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
St. Louis was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .488. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gladwin only posted a batting average of .308.
St. Louis is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Carson City-Crystal, their win bumped their record up to 6-14.
Carson City-Crystal couldn't quite finish off St. Louis in their previous matchup back in May of 2017 and fell 7-5. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
