After a string of eight wins, the Grove City Christian Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They received a tough blow as they fell 69-54 to Liberty Union. The match was a 31-31 toss-up at halftime, but Grove City Christian couldn't quite close it out.
Grove City Christian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Seth Vaughn, who scored 21 points. Vaughn is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last 11 games he's played. Trenton Timlin was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds.
Grove City Christian struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Liberty Union pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
Matt Hinton went supernova for Liberty Union, going 7 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points and 0 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hinton has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Landon Piccirillo, who scored six points along with 12 rebounds and six assists.
Grove City Christian's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-4. As for Liberty Union, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-11.
Grove City Christian will be playing at home against Columbus International at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Grove City Christian's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while Columbus International has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. As for Liberty Union, they will challenge Logan Elm at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Liberty Union focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Monday.
