III Section VII recap September 24, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Art Bojorquez and Xavier Niesen connected against Verrado. The connection went for 94 yards, the longest such play in III Section VII this season.
Desert Edge added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Shadow Ridge, 65-28. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Desert Edge's dynamic duo of Anthony Hernandez and Elijah Marks proved to be unstoppable against the Stallions, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Hernandez threw for 434 yards and 8 touchdowns and Marks had 232 yards receiving. Jordan Jackson helped Desert Edge's passing attack out by catching 9 balls for 133 yards.
Rich Wellbrock's team's dynamic duo of Hernandez and Marks proved tough for Shadow Ridge to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Marks had a great week catching the football as the Scorpions topped Rico Tipton's team.
Chayce Bryant was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 14 carries, he ran for 140 yards as Buckeye bested the Stallions. Teammate Keiontae Bell added to the ground attack by rushing for 62 yards.
Marks was the best receiver in III Section VII this week as the Scorpions defeated Shadow Ridge.
Hernandez put up the best numbers in passing as Desert Edge bested the Stallions.
He was 24-36 with 0 interception.
Neeko Salcido was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Scorpions beat Shadow Ridge. The 5-foot-8 senior.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Desert Edge's Hernandez and Marks have proven to be a lethal combination. Hernandez has thrown for 1,847 yards this season, while Marks, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 46 catches for 1,005 yards. The Stallions' Chris Salsberry leads the league in rushing yards with 707.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Agua Fria takes on the Hawks. As it stands, the Owls are in fifth, while Buckeye is in second.
Shadow Ridge fell to the Scorpions 65-28 last week, the largest margin of any game. Trevor Mucci threw for 83 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 32 yards in the defeat.
