Macomb Area - Gold recap October 1, 2013
Marysville's Brandon Stevenson rumbled for the longest rushing play in Macomb Area - Gold this season in his game against Lamphere last week. Stevenson's team topped the Rams as he sprinted for 58 yards on the play and finished with 173 in all.
Lakeview scaled the state rankings by moving to 426 from 498 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Huskies were able to move up by beating South Lake 22-21.
Marysville's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Josh Smith threw for 100 and 2 touchdowns and Cole Pawson had 63 yards receiving. On the ground Stevenson contributed 173 yards.
Mark Caza's team's dynamic duo of Smith and Pawson proved tough for Lamphere to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Stevenson provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Vikings bested Jason Charron's team.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Marine City's Alex Merchant and Pete Patsalis have proven to be a lethal combination. Merchant has thrown for 690 yards this season, while Patsalis, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 12 catches for 364 yards. Stevenson from Marysville leads the league in rushing with 539 yards.
The Vikings' offense has recorded 216 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while St. Clair has permitted only 73 on the year.
An important game coming up in Macomb Area - Gold this week will be when Marysville takes on the Saints. At the moment, the Vikings are in third, while St. Clair is in first.
William Nesbitt's team added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Warren Woods-Tower, 48-14. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Saints.
