The South Knox Spartans will venture away from home to square off against the Bloomfield Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
South Knox will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Friday, then bounced right back against Loogootee on Monday. The Spartans' pitchers stepped up to hand the Lions a 10-0 shutout. The Spartans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Meanwhile, Bloomfield made easy work of Brown County on Monday and carried off a 13-5 victory. With that win, the Cardinals brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Ethan Davis and Dillon Warnick were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Davis pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Warnick pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Bloomfield is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-4 otherwise. At bat, Davis went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Warnick went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That stolen base marked the first that Davis has snagged this season.
In other batting news, Aiden Scott was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Casey Porter, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Bloomfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brown County only managed six hits.
Bloomfield's victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-5. As for South Knox, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-9.
South Knox came up short against Bloomfield in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 10-6. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
