Nimitz is 10-0 against the Mustangs since January of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Nimitz Cougars will look to defend their home court against the Aldine Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Nimitz has five straight victories, the Mustangs have 31 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, everything went Nimitz's way against the Lions as the Cougars made off with a 57-34 victory. Given Nimitz's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 164th, while the Lions are ranked 334th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Nimitz's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Eric Woods led the charge by scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Another player making a difference was Malachai Augustus, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Aldine took a serious blow against the Falcons on Friday, falling 80-43. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Aldine in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now lost nine in a row.
Nimitz has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-11 record this season. As for Aldine, their defeat was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-28.
Nimitz skirted past the Mustangs 2-0 in their previous meeting back in January. Will Nimitz repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
