Millington Central had won three straight at home, but on Wednesday they bumped their record up to 12-13-1 to make it four. They walked away with a 9-4 win over the Houston Mustangs. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Breanna Hulsey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, Abby West and Hayley Stevens did most of the damage at the plate: West went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Stevens went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Those three hits gave West a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Bell, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Millington Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Houston only posted a batting average of .240.
As for Houston, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
On Houston's side, Kaylea Howell was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Howell has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Lindsey Barnes was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Looking ahead, Millington Central will venture away from home to challenge Northpoint Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Northpoint Christian will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something Millington Central surely won't give up without a fight. As for Houston, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against St. Benedict at Auburndale at 6:00 p.m. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
