The Brookwood Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight defeat. They took a 54-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Oakman. While losing is never fun, Brookwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 359th, while the Wildcats are ranked 132nd).
When it comes to explaining why Brookwood lost, one person who can't be blamed is Dayton Dixon. Despite the final result, he scored 21 points. That was a full 42.9% of Brookwood's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Leland Foster, who scored eight points.
Brookwood has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-23 record this season. As for Oakman, their win bumped their record up to 14-5.
Brookwood will head out on the road to challenge the Golden Gophers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The timing is sure in Hueytown's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while the Panthers have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Oakman's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on February 5th.
