Basketball Recap: Josh Stojan's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Providence Classical Christian Academy over Heritage Classical Christian Academy

If Providence Classical Christian Academy was riding high fresh off their 59-29 takedown of Rivers of Life Christian last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Providence Classical Christian Academy Panthers lost 59-39 to the Heritage Classical Christian Academy Hawks on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Hawks are ranked third).

Providence Classical Christian Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josh Stojan, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 14 points along with eight boards and three blocks. That's the most points Stojan has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Mattull, who went 7 of 17 on his way to 16 points in addition to five assists and five steals.

Heritage Classical Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Luke Heskett led the charge by going 8 for 15 on his way to 17 points in addition to eight boards and six steals. With that strong performance, Heskett is now averaging an impressive 2.4 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Trip Taylor, who went 6 of 11from beyond the arc on his way to 26 points and six steals.

With the loss, Providence Classical Christian Academy broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-4. As for Heritage Classical Christian Academy, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.

Providence Classical Christian Academy will square off against Eagle Ridge Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Heritage Classical Christian Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 45-29 win against First Baptist Academy on the 10th.
