The Bloomington North Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They fell 66-53 to Franklin Community. While losing is never fun, Bloomington North can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 334th, while Franklin Community is ranked 35th).
Bloomington North's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Derrick j.r. Cross, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Cross scored 15 or more points. Luke Lindeman was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Bloomington North were working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Micah Davis continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Franklin Community, dropping a double-double on 43 points and 11 rebounds. The game was Davis' eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Nickleson, who scored 11 points along with five assists and three steals.
Bloomington North bumped their record down to 1-5 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Franklin Community, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 7-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bloomington North and Zionsville will face off at 7:30 p.m. on December 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Zionsville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Saturday. As for Franklin Community, they will head out on the road to face off against Decatur Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
