Grand Valley is 9-1 against Meeker since December of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Grand Valley Cardinals are taking a road trip to take on the Meeker Cowboys at 5:30 p.m. Grand Valley is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
Last Saturday, Grand Valley came up short against Moffat County and fell 44-31. That's two games in a row now that the Cardinals have lost by exactly 13 points.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Taylor Pittman, who posted eight points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Stark, who earned six points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Meeker unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. 2025 welcomed they with a 72-49 loss courtesy of Little Snake River. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Cowboys have suffered since January 26, 2024.
Like Grand Valley, Meeker lost despite seeing results from several players. Rylee Sullivan led the charge by going 11 of 22 on her way to 24 points and six rebounds. The matchup was Sullivan's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Addie Knowles, who had ten points in addition to eight boards and five assists.
Even though they lost, Meeker smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 19 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Grand Valley's record is now 2-4. As for Meeker, their record now sits at 4-2.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Grand Valley has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 24.2 boards per game. However, it's not like Meeker struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.3 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Grand Valley took their victory against Meeker in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 by a conclusive 68-43. Will Grand Valley repeat their success, or does Meeker have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
