Eagle had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 19-run drubbing they dealt Ridgevue on Friday. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Warhawks with a sharp 21-2 victory. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by seven runs or more this season.
Peyton Bargen and Sophia Giles made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Bargen pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Giles pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Bargen has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Bargen got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base, while Giles got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs Giles has posted over her last 11 games.
In other batting news, Eagle got a massive performance out of Makenzie Owens, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave Owens a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ellie McManigal, who went 4-for-5 with three runs and four RBI.
Eagle was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .632. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in five consecutive matchups.
Eagle pushed their record up to 15-5-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Ridgevue, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.
Coming up, Eagle will be playing at home against Borah at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.56 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Ridgevue, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-10 defeat against Centennial on the 20th.
