The Kaiser Cats will challenge the Sultana Sultans at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Kaiser has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with nine straight losses, while Sultana will come in with three straight wins.
Kaiser's tournament run continued when they took on Los Osos on Monday. Kaiser lost 10-2 to Los Osos.
Vanessa Contreras was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Sultana won against Santa Rosa Academy two weeks ago with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again last Monday. Sultana put the hurt on Victor Valley with a sharp 12-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Sultans, who have now won four contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Like Kaiser, Sultana also got a great game from a two-way player: Savannah Vanderpool. On the mound, she struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). That's the first time Vanderpool hasn't allowed a single hit since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits.
In other batting news, Avery Rodriguez was a standout: she fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Jordan Mullinax, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and four runs.
Sultana hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Victor Valley struck out eight times.
Sultana's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Kaiser, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.
Kaiser might still be hurting after the 9-0 loss they got from Sultana in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Will Kaiser have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
