Taylor Martinez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up 18 Ks. Those 18 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sahira Arevalo, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Shelby Dickson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last five matchups, Wilder finally came back down to earth on Friday. They came up short against Soda Springs, falling 20-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Wildcats were not able to get on the board.
Wilder's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Glenns Ferry, their victory bumped their record up to 10-2.
Wilder's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Glenns Ferry has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Wilder, though, as they've been averaging 9.7 hits. Given Glenns Ferry's sizable advantage in that area, the Wildcats will need to find a way to close that gap.
