Baseball Recap: Winston Academy Now 7-1 over Last Eight Games

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Winston Academy and Carroll Academy meet (two straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Patriots were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Rebels. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Ben Caperton and Holder Tidwell did most of the damage at the plate: Caperton went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base, while Tidwell scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. Caperton continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Reed Yates, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Winston Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since the start of last season.

Winston Academy is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Carroll Academy, they dropped their record down to 1-7 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Winston Academy will welcome Canton Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Carroll Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
