The Onteora Eagles lost against the Eldred Yellowjackets back in September of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Onteora's tough 50-30 defeat to Eldred might stick with them for a while. Onteora was down 50-22 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Griffin Alterio, who picked up 82 receiving yards, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Reese Rotella, who threw for 188 yards and a touchdown.
Eldred's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Koen McGill led the charge by throwing for 215 yards and four touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Trai Kaufmann was in the mix too, providing Eldred with three touchdowns.
Onteora has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Eldred, their win bumped their record up to 3-3.
Onteora does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Eldred will head out on the road to face off against Millbrook School at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New York (Millbrook School is ranked 26th, while Eldred is ranked 27th).
