Serena Gillen looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Charlee Arana, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Danbee Kim was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, John Carroll Catholic made easy work of Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart on Wednesday and carried off a 13-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Makayla Ortiz made a splash no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Ortiz was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Samantha Rychter was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Isabella Ramirez, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
John Carroll Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
John Carroll Catholic pushed their record up to 23-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Florida Christian, their win bumped their record up to 18-8.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Florida Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like John Carroll Catholic struggles in that department as they've averaged .383. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Florida Christian skirted past John Carroll Catholic 2-1 in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
