Starkville Academy has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Lamar Raiders at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Starkville Academy will be strutting in after a victory while Lamar will be coming in after a loss.
Last Thursday, Starkville Academy strolled past Pillow Academy with points to spare, taking the game 58-44.
Meanwhile, Lamar was beaten by Simpson Academy 72-40 on Thursday. Lamar has struggled against Simpson Academy recently, as their game on Thursday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jackson Whitcomb, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. Salone Elliott was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Starkville Academy's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Lamar, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.
Starkville Academy ended up a good deal behind Lamar in their previous meeting back in November, losing 50-31. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Whitcomb, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Now that Starkville Academy knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
