The Weymouth Wildcats will square off against the Whitman-Hanson Regional Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Weymouth 3, Whitman-Hanson Regional 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Weymouth will bounce into Saturday's contest after beating Walpole, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Wildcats came out on top against the Timberwolves by a score of 8-4 on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Liam Barr tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
At the plate, Alex Munchbach and Will Shanahan did most of the damage at the plate: Munchbach got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Shanahan got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Munchbach has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Danny Dreyfus, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Whitman-Hanson Regional). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Quincy a 10-0 shutout on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Panthers considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Shea Cote looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Whitman-Hanson Regional let Preston George and Jason Nye run wild. George went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Nye went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one run. George has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was John Walker, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Whitman-Hanson Regional was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Whitman-Hanson Regional is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Weymouth, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Weymouth has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Whitman-Hanson Regional struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Weymouth took their win against Whitman-Hanson Regional when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
