After flying high against the Elmira Falcons last Friday, the Stayton Eagles came back down to earth. Stayton took a 48-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Marist on Tuesday. Stayton was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Marist apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Stayton's loss came despite strong showings from Kaden Holm and Elijah Kuenzi. Holm scored 14 points along with 8 rebounds, while Kuenzi scored 10 points along with 6 rebounds. Holm scored a full 34.1% of Stayton's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Stayton's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Marist, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Stayton will head out on the road to face off against St. Helens at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Marist, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Henley at 8:30 p.m. Henley will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
