Softball Recap: Columbia Wins Going Away Against Wharton

Columbia won against Bay City last Wednesday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Columbia Roughnecks were the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over the Wharton Tigers. Considering the Roughnecks have won six matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kayleigha Busch was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Raley, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Columbia's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Wharton, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9.

Coming up, Columbia will square off against Needville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Needville 3.1, Columbia 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Wharton, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Brazosport at 5:30 p.m.
