It was a good run, but the Newcomb Skyhawks unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They were dealt a 63-29 loss at the hands of Santa Fe Indian. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Newcomb has scored all season.
Several Skyhawks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lethia Yazzie, who scored 15 points along with five steals. Yazzie hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Nevaeh Miller, who scored six points along with ten rebounds.
Newcomb's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Santa Fe Indian, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newcomb will take on Thoreau at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Thoreau is ranked 85th, while Newcomb is ranked 81st). As for Santa Fe Indian, they will head out on the road to face off against Los Alamos at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
