Ashe County is 2-8 against Starmount since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Huskies will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rams at 6:00 p.m. Ashe County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
Ashe County took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Hibriten, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Huskies sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Panthers on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Huskies.
Maleah Lovell made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
Lovell wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Hannah Osborne, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. Another was Addi Williams, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Ashe County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last match, Starmount made sure to put some runs up on the board against North Stokes on Tuesday. The Rams were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Vikings. Considering the Rams have won five contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Starmount is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Ashe County, their win bumped their record up to 8-6.
Everything went Ashe County's way against Starmount when the teams last played back in March, as Ashe County made off with a 9-1 victory. Do the Huskies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
