The Illiana Christian Vikings will be home for the holidays to greet the Timothy Christian Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. After the pair made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky.
Illiana Christian waltzed into their matchup Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. Everything went their way against Chicago Christian as Illiana Christian made off with a 66-46 win. Illiana Christian might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won three matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Illiana Christian had a senior duo take command as Isaac Sherwood scored 23 points and Andy Spoelman scored 13 points along with six assists and four blocks. That's the first time this season that Sherwood scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Scott, who scored seven points.
Meanwhile, Timothy Christian got the win against Chicago Christian last Tuesday by a conclusive 63-39.
Stephen Hribal was his usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with six rebounds. Marc Gamble was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Illiana Christian now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Timothy Christian, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
Friday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Illiana Christian have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 26.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Timothy Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 27.2 rebounds per game. Given Illiana Christian's sizeable advantage in that area, Timothy Christian will need to find a way to close that gap.
Illiana Christian was able to grind out a solid win over Timothy Christian in their previous matchup back in January, winning 53-40. Will Illiana Christian repeat their success, or does Timothy Christian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
